Dos funciones de la familia: contención e interdicción, o sostén y corte, eficaces en la constitución subjetiva. (El Psicoanálisis las nombró como funciones materna y paterna, respectivamente, en correspondencia con el sistema de denominaciones propio de la familia nuclear burguesa.)
It seems to mean that the mother tends to hold/limit the behavior from getting beyond a certain point, whereas the father simply interdicts (forbids) something.
