SPAIN. I know this is something to do with colostrum, but am having trouble finding ways to express "calostrar", "encalostrar" etc in English (colostrumming?).
The sample is from a verbatim interview with a hog farm vet:
"Si no calostran bien no tienen (anticuerpos). La granja si a mí me aseguran que el tío hace un encalostrado bien hecho pues sí, si haces la cosas como puedes porque el mundo es como es pues ahí hay un 10-15% que se va a perder."

When the calf (or baby for that matter) is born, the first milk that comes through is of a very different composition, very "creamy", high fat, and full of essential nutrients and antibodies for the newborn animal. If the colostrum doesn't come through/the cow dies/the calf doesn't suckle properly, there is potential for future trouble because the calf will neither have been efficiently nourished as appropriate for that stage in its life, nor received the antibodies.
Trivia: when he had milking cows, my brother-in-law used to keep the colostrum on occasions for the Spanish international cyclist Perico Delgado, who was very fond of them (the word is used in plural in Spanish). Bit like clotted cream to look at.
