español term

relacionamiento

español al inglés Otros Org./Desarr./Coop. Internacional Monthly evaluation report
Contexto:

suggestions

I don't think you can use the same word in English for each instance in Spanish
Peer comment(s):

agree neilmac : I reckon just "liaison" would do, and we could save the others for use later in the text... "Liaison strategy" is very nice too :)

Three occurrencies = three different translation options + one tip

Three occurrencies = three different translation options + one tip

1st para: “position,”

2nd para: “interaction” (with other partners), and

3rd para: “visibility.”

However, “interaction” can work in all the three instances, I guess.

Useful tip: every time I have a hard time finding the right NOUN in English to translate a Spanish (German, Russian … ) noun I try and rephrase the source sentence using VERBS and other verbal forms in English, which does the trick most of the time!

PS. The source is poorly written. For instance: “Potenciar las relaciones con el Departamento de Salud y otros actores, que permita (sing. --> pl.: permitaN) a las estructuras comunitarias un mayor reconocimiento y relacionamiento (tautology with the earlier mentioned “relaciones”).”

Interesting! And, of course, useful!!!

networking

I think this is the intended meaning, and I also think it fits all 3 contexts.

relations / linkage

If you want something wordier, you might consider something "forging/handling managing relations", although I think this type of document usually needs shortened, not padded out even more than they tend to be.
My 2nd suggestion is "linkage". Wikipedia tells us that "Linkage generally means "the manner or style of being united", and can refer to several things. I suggest it here because it sounds vaguely modern (perhaps because of the current prevalence of hyperlinks). My only real justification however would be “why not?”....

PS: I think Liz's suggestion "liaison strategy" works really well for this text :)

Muriel's "networking" is also a great option if used sparingly.

Loan word from Brazilian Portuguese

It just means "relations" or "relationship". It seems to come from Brazilian Portuguese relacionamento, which means simply that (applied only to persons and entities). It started to appear in Paraguay and Uruguay in the 1970s, probably under the influence of the process that led to the foundation of Mercosur.

Didn't know it. Thanks Charles for the information!

agree neilmac : Yes, but I still think "liaison strategy" would work well and leave us "relation/s" for use later on...

Sounds reasonable. I just thought I'd pass this on. Cheers, Neil ;)
