There are pocket windows and pocket doors. Their name comes from the fact that their two sections open on a sliding panel hardware (vertically or horizontally), but instead of moving one section in front of the other, which would allow you to open one half, you can open both sections fully because each panel is hidden in a pocket in the wall, opposite each other.
