Aunque menos emblemática que el agua, la temperatura es otra característica climática que se presenta en la cumbre como tensión entre opuestos. La altura y la relativa lejanía del océano confieren al clima de estas montañas una cierta continentalidad. El calor puede llegar a extremos insospechados en verano mientras que en invierno no son raras las nevadas, a veces muy copiosas. El contraste no puede ser más marcado entre los fondos de barranco orientados al oeste donde se desarrolla incluso una fruticultura subtropical y el entorno del Pozo de las Nieves donde se guardaba el hielo hasta el verano especialmente para usos relacionados con la atención a los enfermos.

My thought about "clash" is that it might be going too far. To me, it seems that "tension" implies an interaction or interplay (which could also be used here) and the *possibility* of a clash.
