Portuguese term

conta

Portuguese to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama Sheep shearing
I think this is a term used in the Azores, where this takes place.
It appears three times throughout the whole video.

'um ia às vacas e o outro ia à conta'
'chamava-se a conta'
'era a terra do milho que tinha erva das contas'

They're talking about sheep shearing.
I can't find this anywhere and I've never heard this term before.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help!

@ Nick I've already closed this question and handed in the translation, but I ended up translating the last part as simply 'grass' and the first part where he says it's what they called it I left the Portuguese term 'conta'.
Thanks anyway!

@Tania The only way I can help you is to give you the scientific name of the "erva das contas" i.e. Arrhenatherum elatius - commonly known as false oat-grass, tall oat-grass, tall meadow oat, onion couch and tuber oat-grass!!! But I am not quite sure what you can do with this information....

Proposed translations

1 day 7 hrs

bead / beads / beading

Hello, I would like to have some more context, but this is what I found:

I would say this refers to beads for adornments - contas de miçanga.

'um ia às vacas e o outro ia à conta' - Faz sentido, pelo que vejo no contexto que você colocou, já que parece um cenário de trabalho: um está indo cuidar das vacas enquanto o outro vai às contas (esse outro está indo fazer miçangas - contas de miçanga - para vender, por exemplo)

'era a terra do milho que tinha erva das contas' : In this cropland one would find herbs used in these contas (beads) for adornments.

I would like to see some more context.
Example sentence:

the other one would do the beadwork

the other one would do some bead embroidery
