I have a fast question about the X歳になる expression. To me, it means that someone will become X years old in the next future.
私は５月には１６歳になる。
I will be sixteen in May.
However, I happen to find some examples of use where the meaning seems to be different, like:
私には18歳になる名づけ子がいる。
I have a godson who is 18 years old now.

In the second example, according to the translation, the godson is already 18 years old. Is this correct or does the sentence mean that he'll be turning 18 in some months?

It is correct. The person is already 18 years old. I can see that this is confusing when you look at these two examples side by side. I am not sure if these なる are the same word, or the latter is a short for なっている, or something else.
