Afraid not. I've already explained it as best I can.
Inter-Tra Jan 25, 2010:
? Pardon me, Tom, can you better explain your previous comment?

In regard to 'gastronomic', pardon me, again. Most of the web-sites with the term 'gastronomic' I looked at , are Italian (or foreign/Spanish) websites translated into English. No wonder that they go for nice calque of the term. Please, your thought, can we once for all use 'gastronomic' as synonym for 'food-and-wine'?

turn the phrase round

If you don't like 'food and wine tourism', why not turn the phrase round? Sth along the lines of: The area has plenty to offer tourists looking to experience the local food and wine (produce)...?

Just a suggestion!

I'd say it would be acceptable, as Giles mentioned it really depends on the entire context, not just the sentence.
Note from asker:
thanks sharon, do you think it would be acceptable to use in a frase as : nella zona si puo praticare turismo enogastronomico? ....

food and wine tourism

Hi Valentina,

You don't give us any context so we can't really give you a definitive answer. "Food and wine tourism" is a good general option but there are several others.

For example, some people prefer "gastrotourism" (cf "gastropubs") although it sounds a bit "medical".

If your context is informal, you could refocus the phrase "nella zona si puo praticare turismo enogastronomico" into something like "there is plenty in the area for food and wine tourists".

in addition to the term "enogastronomical" you´ll find also the word "oenogastronomical" which - though paying more tribute to the word´s origin - i.e.the Greek word " οίνος " for wine (in English very well known in connection with oenology) - is less frequently used.
Peer comment(s):

disagree philgoddard : Sorry, but there's no such word. //They're translations from Italian.

have you looked under "enogastronomical" ? there are more than 42ßß ghits.
neutral Michael Mottola : Even if it is a word, the other choices here make for a better translation (in my opinion)
