.. जरा आगे वह आप 'दो घोड़ों' की 'शलवार-कमीज' पहने और धारीदार केसरी पगड़ी को सिर पर लहरों की तरह जमाए भंगड़ा करने के अन्दाज में चल रहा है ....
This sentence describes the groom's father in the wedding party (बारात). It appears in a short story by Joginder Paul. The original is in Urdu but I am working from a Hindi translation (mostly transliteration, I suspect). I am not entirely sure of the accuracy of the Hindi version, though, because it contains some obvious punctuation errors.
An explanation of the term would be most helpful.

It appears that it is the brand name of cloth. It might mean that he is wearing the shirt and trousers made from the cloth which has this brand name.

| Thanks for your help. This possibility had occurred to me. I trust you have used or heard this term before. Would you know what the origin is? I understand modern shalwar-kameez evolved from garments which were originally worn while riding a horse. Is it possible that a 'two-horse' shalwar-kameez is cut more generously so that it is suitable for riding two horses at once? This is a wild guess but I wonder! |
