German term

Referenzparcours

German to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation
Hi, does anyone know what the English translation is for Referenzparcours? It has been used as part of an article about a sports and leisure fair. I'm not even really sure, what it means in German. I have heard Bewegungsparcours, but struggle with Referenzparcours.

Thanks

Discussion

Mack Tillman Sep 2, 2015:
Or: a showcase project for animating the public to exercise more
Mack Tillman Sep 2, 2015:
Or: maybe a course prototype for demonstration purposes
Then demonstration course is probably your best answer.
Annett Grosser-Rogoff (asker) Sep 2, 2015:
Sorry, my fault. The correct sentence is: Basierend auf den Erfahrungen aus dem letzten Jahr hat xxx ein Konzept eines Referenzparcours entwickelt. This is about a sports fair, where various companies offer their ideas and concepts. This specific one focuses on getting the public to exercise more.
Robert Paulig Sep 2, 2015:
Referenzparcours could be referring to some 'first-of-its-kind' objects the effects of which are still to be evaluated. cf. http://www.playground-landscape.com/de/article/view/688.html
(similar to a "Referenzobjekt" in German)
Is this in connection with selling a product? Or is it dealing with promoting sport in some way? i.e. follow our suggestion and make your own for your school/sports club/old people's home, etc.
Annett Grosser-Rogoff (asker) Sep 2, 2015:
The sentence to be translated is: In Zusammenarbeit mit der Zeitschrift xxx gibt es im Oktober in Halle 5 ein praxisorientiertes Fachprogramm mit den Themenbereichen „Bewegungsparcours im öffentlichen Raum “ sowie ....
Mack Tillman Sep 2, 2015:
Guessing game @Annett: Can you offer some more context. Andreas answer is pointing in a different direction but also legitimate. Without some more details we won't be able to help.
Mack Tillman Sep 2, 2015:
What type of project? It sounds to me that they would create demonstration units that are used to demonstrate the specific course they offer and how it works. Possibly a model or just a subset of the overall "product offering".
Annett Grosser-Rogoff (asker) Sep 2, 2015:
It is part of an article about a sports fair. They're talking about creating Referenzparcours as part of a new project.
Mack Tillman Sep 2, 2015:
Demonstration course or demo course In Germany ropes courses are spreading like mushrooms.

I reckon that it could just be a demonstration unit for a larger course of some kind. You could use "reference course for demonstration purposes".
Dmitriy Gromov Sep 2, 2015:
Could you give any context?

pilot trail

This is as much for reference as anything else. It is quite difficult to go into too much detail without revealing your actual source. A press release for the fair in English (not a direct translation of the German press release, but closely related) refers to this "course" or "facility" as a "pilot project". I can send you a link to this privately if you haven't already seen it.

Here is something very similar, although the term in the German original is "Pilotparcours":

As part of its sustainability strategy, the state government of Hesse, together with three universities, initiated model movement trails for older citizens at two pilot locations, Darmstadt and Hanau. These trails were scientifically supported and monitored by the three universities. The pilot trails were constructed in summer 2011 with the aim of motivating senior citizens to enjoy movement in the fresh air that would also make them healthier. For the first time in Germany, for three months and within the framework of an academic study, research was carried out into the positive effect of movement trails on the health of those senior citizens over 60 years of age who did not previously engage in sport. The findings of both the physical and psychological evaluation of the senior citizens taking part can be viewed as positive.

The pilot trail of this type funded by Hesse’s ministry for social affairs was established in the Schlossgarten in Hanau. There are also public movement trails for athletes and the physically active with ambitions. Here even those less keen on sport can be motivated by supervised exercise. A movement trail of this kind was set up as a pilot trail in Darmstadt’s Bürgerpark and is used by athletes and guided exercise groups.

A more recent edition of the Playground@Landscape magazine discussing this fair refers to a "Referenz-Outdoor-FitnessParkour", translated as "reference outdoor fitness trail" .

Wikipedia - Fitness trail

Benchmark/baseline assessment course

Possibly where somebody tries out a fitness course to assess their benchmark or baseline. They may then sign up for a particular training session or a fitness course.
