These two letters appear between brackets and in lower case at the end of a scientific article about pesticides, specifically at the end of an information box that deals with political matters. Does it perhaps stand for "Auszug"?

I reckon it might simply be the abbreviation (Kürzel) used by the source of the information, whether a person, newspaper, report...

Only one author is mentioned, and his initials sadly do not match these ones.

That would be my guess too. Is there a list of authors anywhere in your document?

Auszug ... ... appears to be unlikely because of the lower-case a. Could this perhaps be the initials of the author or reviewer?

aktenzeichen - reference or source - citation. so it is like a placeholder probably if it is in brackets. Source still needs to be entered. Could also be file reference. In this case presumably the source of the political information in the box.
