Dear All,

Does anyone have any ideas how I could translate this position (an official term for someone in the military) into the equivalent English term?

Agree that "technical" civil servant is quite problematic.

'Technischer Regierungsamtsrat'? Many thanks, I suspect the above term is the correct one.

There is a further abbreviation: "TRAmtm", but I can't find a definition for this. Can anyone help?
Kim Metzger Aug 9, 2020:
Someone in the military? In the US, military personnel are not civil servants.
philgoddard Aug 9, 2020:
Thanks But the question has been asked and answered before, and I don't believe in scoring points by recycling other people's ideas. Also, it's a nonexistent term, so there's no point putting it in the glossary.

@ Asker I think you mean: 'Technischer Regierungsamtsrat'?

SEO (Defence Engineering and Science Group) / MOD Civil Service engineer

Falscher Freund: technisch > technical
Technically, there is no objection to the use of 'technical' instead of 'engineering', except that it is found on translated websites and in chat rooms. A 'technical' civil servant is one who qualifies for the rank on a technicality.

CTO also has the merit of being an acknowledged EN acronym corresponding to the DE acronym TRAR.

Thanks. I think it must have been the OK-Trans vote that swung it.
