Discussion

Julie Barber (asker) Jun 26, 2019:
Hi Johannes. PhB did delete his original suggestions as he had doubts about the suggestion, but I had taken it up by that time! as I thought that it worked in the context.
Johannes Gleim Jun 26, 2019:
@ Ph_B Did you delete your discussion entry "regulation and control car park"? Why?
Johannes Gleim Jun 26, 2019:
Thank you for this piece of information As Ph_B did not post an answer for "regulation and control car park" you may enter it on your own into the glossary.

BTW: I could not find no discussion entry from Ph_B for "regulation and control car park", obviously deleted.
Julie Barber (asker) Jun 23, 2019:
Hi all. Thank you for your help. I went with "regulation and control car park" which PhB initially suggested
Johannes Gleim Jun 23, 2019:
@ Julie You may have completed the translation and delivered it to the client, I suppose. It would be fine to inform us about the chosen translation and to close the question subsequently.
Julie Barber (asker) Jun 3, 2019:
Morning both. I would avoid traffic control to be honest because we don't know what type of "regulation" there are talking about here - traffic flows, other checks etc. We don't know
Ph_B (X) Jun 3, 2019:
I ended up deleting the Mont-Blanc example because I wasn't sure it was appropriate: 1) it referred to HGVs and your source text refers to passenger vehicles and 2) it was a translation into E, which I couldn't find in any original E text. I still think it's about a place where vehicles are made to wait either to control them or to regulate traffic within the port, or both (cf. [En parlant d'un mécanisme, d'un dispositif] Fait d'en régler le fonctionnement ou le mode de fonctionnement, notamment pour l'adapter aux conditions extérieures ou au résultat à obtenir... CH. DE FER. Action d'assurer le fonctionnement normal d'un réseau ou d'une fraction de réseau (TLFi), but there's perhaps another way of putting it in English.
Julie Barber (asker) Jun 3, 2019:
Thanks Phil. You other comments about Mont Blanc, which were very helpful seem to have been deleted. I ended up going with "regulation and control car park", along the lines of the Mont Blanc ones. The MB info seemed to relate to HGV but still, it seems that the notion would be the same. Why don't you post it? thanks
Julie Barber (asker) Jun 2, 2019:
All I know is that the car park is within the maritime railway station area, within the port...
Ph_B (X) Jun 2, 2019:
régulation can mean "control". This could be a car park where vehicles are made to wait before being controlled and driving on board ships.

French term (edited): Parking de régulation (des véhicules passagers)

(Passenger vehicle & ferry-ramp) traffic control car park (AmE: parking lot)

Here is a token answer, ex post facto by the look of it.

Thank you (for your continuing 'meaty' support).
disagree Johannes Gleim : Sorry, but I miss "traffic control" and/or "control car park" in both references. Hence, not conclusive. // Ph did only contribute to the discussion not substantiation his opion. // Please consider that the asker already declined your proposal.

No need to say sorry if you are not in England and my traffic control (or 'flow-and-go') answer had been largely based on Ph_B's informed comments and my Moroccan border-crossing experience at Tétouan.

regulated car parking

No matter what the regulation consists of, it is a regulated car parking.

There are many parking lots in Athens, Most parking lots in Athens are not regulated, there is private space with parking sign and you just get it, typically about 6-10 euro for enitre duration ( 8 am to 6 pm), they wil keep the car keys
the only regulated car parking i could find is (http://polispark.gr), there is one such car park near the archaelogical museum (1.5 euro/hr)

Peer comment(s):

neutral Ph_B (X) : Highly unlikely from the context we have. Your answer would be the translation of parking réglementé, whereas as a native speaker, I understand de régulation as "the aim of which is/meant to regulate (something)" or words to that effect.

I do not believe in supposed translations
disagree Adrian MM. : regulated would be ambiguous and mean in English - rather than Denglish - covered by rules and regulations, so by a statutory framework, and not necessarily by a traffic flow-and-go system, as I - border-crossing at Ceuta - once experienced at Tétouan.

les parkings réglementés ont des règles and régulations. Ils sont payants et surveillés.
