French term

pilier

French to English Bus/Financial Human Resources Trial period
CONTEXT:

"Cette formation devra être assurée par un moniteur ou vendeur pilier".

The training course is given to the trainee. Does "pilier" mean "essential" here? TIA.

Un gros merc, Mimi ...
disagree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : This register is way too familiar for a professional context in my view and relates to performance, rather than dependability. A "pilier" suggests reliability, being a mainstay, sound. http://www.larousse.fr/dictionnaires/francais/pilier/60915

reliable

The person giving the training needs to be reliable and thoroughly know the job. That is not the same as being "ace", which means high-performing and is not a necessary qualification for training somebody else.
Peer comment(s):

agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : Quite. a 'pilier' is a mainstay, a reliable, dependable person. It suggests experience and is rather more synonymous with "fiable" than "performant".
