@ Wendy The smaller context refers to all the furniture in the region and before that they refer to a combination chair that has a mechanism, a so called "priere Dieu", but this is before, so I don't really think they would speak about this Prayer desk again after referring to all the regional items in general as being "cirés à la capucine".

Could there be a comma after cirés because there seem to be other definitions for à la capucine:
Chaise ou fauteuil « à la capucine
Un siège ou un fauteuil « à la capucine » est une chaise à fond paillé ou canné qui comprend des traverses de dossier chantournées.
