"Owing to the global COVID-19 pandemic, W Series' on-track races were paused in 2020. In 2021, the W Series calendar includes eight Formula 1 support races. Read the article below to find out more about our 2021 season."

Sometime an event has a "main act" / the "headliner" the one pulling the crowd (usually left for the end of the show) and one or more "support acts" that are given the opportunity to perform to the same audience as the "headliner" -usually less known performers.

so in the 2021 racing season, in 8 Formula 1 races, a race from the "W series" will be a "support act"

Headliner (performances)

A headliner is the main act in a music, theatre, or comedy performance. Generally, the headliner is the final act in a performance, preceded by the opening act(s).

In music, the headliner often reserves sole permissions to the name of the tour. Thus, tour names often reflect the name of the latest album or a popular song from the latest album of the headliner. Additionally, the headliner is often the most famous or prominent act in the performance.

The main event is a similar concept in sports.

History
The term "headliner" dates back to the 1890s.[1]

Opening act

A warm-up act, opening act, support act, or supporting act is an entertainment act (musical, comedic, or otherwise), that performs at a concert before the featured act, or "headliner". Rarely, an opening act may perform again at the end of the event, or perform with the featured act after both have had a set to themselves.

The opening act's performance serves to "warm up" the audience, making it appropriately excited and enthusiastic for the headliner.

In rock music, the opening act will usually be an up-and-coming group with a smaller following than the featured artist. On long concert tours, different opening acts may be used for different legs of the tour.

Explanation:
Hi there!

I think from what you've given as context this might mean bill in the sense of a ticket showcasing an event.

I'm sending a link that might help.

The Cambridge Dictionary has one definition for bill which I think would help and fits what you might be needing: "sign giving information about something, especially an event or performance [...] to be performing on a show"

Meanwhile, Merriam-Webster defines it as: "a written or printed advertisement posted or otherwise distributed to announce an event of interest to the public"

I hope that helps.

disagree  Yvonne Gallagher: no, a ticket does NOT "showcase an event". You have misread the info you got in dictionaries

neutral  Daryo: confronted with some real-life knowledge, most dictionaries most of the time would bite the dust ... + there is also the small matter of "context" i.e. how the literal meaning translates into the meaning intended in the specific text.

-> what you call "rather longwinded" I would see as "properly explained" / "explained in the context" / "if you do something, don't do it by halves" / "do a thorough research once, more efficient than repeated quick fixes" // everyone's got own methods...
