English term

direction, view or plane

English Medical Medical: Instruments Radiography
Hi,

Could any radiography experts here explain the difference between direction, view and plane in regular X-ray (chest, head etc - not soft tissues with contrast)? I find all these terms and at least sometimes they seem to be used as synonyms but maybe I'm wrong?

Thanks

They are different

Plane refers to the sections of the body being x-rayed, as in coronal or sagital sections in the head and neck region.

View refers to the side you are looking at so Anterior or posterior view means your looking from the front or back respectively.

Direction, I am not entirely sure but I came across it in dental x-ray in relation to the direction of the cone.

Hope this is helpful :)
