English term

the stock of wealth of an economy

English Bus/Financial International Org/Dev/Coop
I'm having trouble understanding the text below.

What do the entries affect in the following context:

The balance sheet completes the sequence of accounts, showing the ultimate effect of the entries in the production, distribution and use of income, and accumulation accounts on the stock of wealth of an economy.

Do they affect "the stock of wealth of an economy"?

Here is the full context:

A balance sheet relates to the value of assets and liabilities at a particular moment of time.

The balance sheet completes the sequence of accounts, showing the ultimate effect of the entries in the production, distribution and use of income, and accumulation accounts on the stock of wealth of an economy.

The balancing item of a balance sheet is called net worth.

Adding my two cents worth in… The fact that the term is classified under “international org/dev/coop” tells me that “an economy” most likely refers to a country. But only additional context could prove (or disprove) my guess.
Christopher Schröder Dec 2, 2022:
It could be any economy.
AllegroTrans Dec 2, 2022:
"An economy" needs to be understood, first and foremeost. Can we assume this means the economy of a specific country, region etc.?
philgoddard Dec 2, 2022:
The sentence is clumsily written, and I can see why you posted it. The words "stock of" add nothing to the sentence, and you can ignore them in your translation.
Christopher Schröder Dec 2, 2022:
Yes, you’re right and the two suggestions aren’t.

the valuation/estimate of wealth/richness of an economy

To me, the phrase in question sounds convoluted and doesn’t say much.

I would guess this is the definition:
stock: an estimate of valuation of something
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/stock

The sum of the individual balance sheets provides insights into the total wealth of an economy. (?)

I suggest asking the author for clarification.

That is, assuming that every business files a tax return and declares the correct amounts!

...showing the ultimate effect of the entries..., and accumulation accounts on the stock of wealth

In my understanding, "showing" relates to two segments: "the ultimate effect of the entries in the production...", and "accumulation accounts on the stock of wealth...". Therefore, the entries are related to "the production, distribution and use of income".

I hope it makes sense!
