source model

English Science Geology
1:
Later, during the 1970s, the methods for assessing the tsunami levels evolved and numerical simulations based on source models of the tectonic mechanisms for characterizing the tsunamigenic sources that generate the sea floor deformations were developed and used.

2:
The numerical simulation of earthquake induced tsunamis based on a tectonic mechanism and source modelling was carried out only after the mid-1970s.

3:
The scenario tsunamis are a large number of postulated tsunamis for which numerical simulations are performed, each with different characterizations of the source model.

Earlier in the text, as the first sentence, we have tsunamigenic sources or seisemic sources. I'm think that the "source" in "source model" refers to tsunamigenic sources or seisemic sources, or source is used here in the sense of "reference". These three sentences that I added are the first three instances of "source model" used in the source text.

@Asker I will try and explain what I understand by “source model” with an analogy with waves on the surface of a pond. By observing the wave pattern at different places, we may be able to distinguish between “dropped stone” and “skimmed stone” models. In the first case, the waves are generated by a single stone dropped from a height; in the second case, the waves are generated by a flat stone skimmed across the still water surface.

Something similar happens in seismology. An earthquake is triggered by the release of seismic energy. A source model seems to be a mathematical model of the pattern of energy release during the triggering event.

a mathematical model of the source of seismic waves

"Source model" seems to refer to a mathematical model of the forces acting at the point where the seismic event which causes a tsunami occurs.

The introductory paragraph of the following article, though technical, may be helpful nonetheless:

The forces acting at the location of the seismic constitute just one element of the source model.

Note from asker:
Can you give me your idea about the meaning of "source"? Does it mean reference models?
