English term

on us

Non-PRO English Other Advertising / Public Relations
There is a brochure with various slogans, all containing ON.

- on demand
- on printing
- on time
- on hand

These qre quite consistent with the content of the corresponding sections.

Problematic is ON US because the Italian author pretends to replace "ABOUT US" with "ON US".
I am of the opinion that ON US at the beginning of a section telling about the requisites of the company
doesn't mean anything and is even mislweading!

Is possible a (longer) slogan containing ON that has the same meaning of ABOUT US!

TIA

Change log

Jul 15, 2020 16:41: robin25 changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Edith Kelly, OK-Trans, robin25

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Arabic & More Sep 5, 2013:
Anusca,
It is fine to say "on us" to mean "about us." One of the dictionary meanings of "on" is "on the topic of," and its use is common in the U.S. "On us" carries another meaning, which is that "we bear the responsibility" for something. So, this could be seen as something positive in a company slogan. I think it is totally fine and even a bit clever in the context you have offered.
