English term

low-rise construction / low-rise construction projects

English to Norwegian Other Architecture
The text is a Letter of Recommendation. The person has worked on a number of building projects, among which low-rise construction projects (a square, a water park). Can "lav bygging" be used in this case?

Discussion

Per Bergvall Oct 16, 2005:
"offentlige fasiliteter" sounds like public facilities, which would be understood as public toilets.
A. Petrunova (asker) Oct 16, 2005:
What about "offentlige fasiliteter"?

Another suggestion: lav bebyggelse? I need a Norwegian term that refers to low-rise construction as exeplified by parking lots, parks, gas stations, playgrounds.

Lavbygg

Quite a few references on Google - but I still wouldn't use it about parks and parking lots.

In a letter of recommendation, to say a person has worked on a number of building projects, among which low-rise construction projects, you would normally say "NN har arbeidet med et antall byggeprosjekter, inkludert lavbygg og offentlige anlegg". Anlegg is a handy word to cover everything from parking lots to water parks and public facilities.

lave byggverk

I Forskrift om krav til byggverk og produkter til byggverk (TEK), har man oversatt "lave byggverk" med "low rise construction works". Dette er en bra oversetting, etter min mening (bortsett fra at jeg ville skrevet "low-rise").
