ICF acronym

English to Hindi Medical Other ICF
My query is related to the molecular no. used in ICFs. Most of the times, you might come across somethin written as LY57546 in the ICF documents. The LY is many a times transliterated as एलवाइ, एलवाई, एलवाय
Though it is very preferential change and it is arguable to decide which is correct. But i would like to know your suggestions over it.

If we go the way it is spelt, then it must be एलवाय, what do you say about this?

साइकिल / साइकल के संदर्भ में साइकल/सायकल अंग्रेज़ी उच्चारण के अधिक करीब है, किंतु यहां यह गौरतलब है कि हर देश में अंग्रेज़ी के उच्चारण को वहां की भाषा प्रभावित करती है। भारत में अंग्रेज़ी बोलने वालों और अंग्रेज़ी भाषा की विशेषज्ञता रखने वाले लोगों की विद्वता को विश्व भी स्वीकारता है, लेकिन उनका लहजा या स्वराघात न तो ब्रिटिश लोगों जैसा और न ही अमेरिकी लोगों जैसा रहा है। लेकिन इधर हिंग्रेज़ी के साथ ही साथ उच्चारण में भी परिवर्तन देखने को मिल रहा है।

Please dont grt offended. The wiki content is almost correct but my point of concern is we have a belief that wiki content is error free and approved. But it is not so. Also, i would like to give my opinion as nothing is correct or wrong but it differs just because of the difference in the pronunciation. One of a client get back to me with its QA report and marked it as a critical error so i thought to discuss on this forum. Thank you all for the great insights. I will keep using एलवाई and reject the preferential change एलवाइ या एलवाय

अनुकूलन अर्थात् adaptation अंग्रेज़ी शब्दकोश की वेबसाइट से इस शब्द का उच्चारण सुना, तो यह स्पष्ट तौर पर लगा कि इसे साइकल कहा जा रहा है, साइकिल नहीं। वास्तव में, हिंदी भाषा में अंग्रेज़ी के अनेक शब्द उनकी ध्वनियों में परिवर्तन करके हिंदी की प्रकृति के अनुसार अपनाए गए हैं, उदाहरणार्थ -
academy - अकैडमी - अकादमी
tragedy - ट्रेजडी - त्रासदी
लगता है कि यही बात यहाँ लागू होती है

Are you implying that there is no one here in this forum who is qualified enough to write for wiki, or that anything written by anyone here, however scholarly it may be, merits rejection merely on the grounds that it is "written by one amongst us"?

@ललित, विनोद -> साइकिल जब मैं दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय से बीएससी कर रहा था, तो हिंदी भी एक वैकल्पिक विषय के रूप में थी। मुझे याद है, सही वर्तनी वाले अध्याय में जो अनेक शब्द शामिल किए गए थे, उनमें साइकिल-साइकल-सायकल भी था। हमें यह सिखाया गया था कि इनमें से पहला, यानी साइकिल सही है। इसीलिए मैंने यह सवाल उठाया था। अब ललित जी ने भी पुष्टि कर दी है कि साइकिल सही है, हालाँकि, मेरी लड़की (8-10 साल) तथा उसके सभी दोस्त साइकिल को जिस तरह से बोलते हैं, वह सायकल के अधिक निकट है। शायद यह बंबइया हिंदी का प्रभाव हो।

एक होता है भाषायी संस्कार वाई क्यों सही है, इसे सहज भाषायी संस्कार से समझा जा सकता है। मातृभाषा हिंदी होने और बचपन से हिंदुस्तानी शैली में अंग्रेज़ी के उच्चारण करते आने से सहज ही मुंह से ‘वाई’ उच्चारित होता है।

जहां तक इसके लिए ‘विकी’ के अतिरिक्त संदर्भ की बात है तो विभिन्न स्थानों पर जहां किसी व्यक्ति के नाम में Y. शामिल होगा, उसके लिए हिंदी में प्राय: वाई ही लिखा मिलेगा। उदाहरण के लिए केंद्रीय हिंदी संस्थान की वेबसाइट पर एक नाम लिखा देखें वाई. लक्ष्मी प्रसाद http://www.khsindia.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=ar... इसके अलावा एनसीआरटी द्वारा अनुशंसित बच्चों की पाठ्य पुस्तकों में भी Y (वाई) मिल सकता है।

साइकिल सही है साइकल नहीं, साइकिल को विद्वानों ने सही माना है और यह प्रचलन में भी है। फ़ादर कामिल बुल्के और डॉ. हरदेव बाहरी साइकिल ही लिखते हैं।

पहली बात तो यह कि आपकी खोज ही गलत दिशा में निर्दिष्ट है। भाषा में कभी भी कुछ भी निरपेक्ष रूप से सही या गलत नहीं होता। भाषा तो एक प्रवाह है जो समय के साथ-साथ रूप में, आकार में और रंग में भी परिवर्तित होता रहता है। किसी स्रोत को मानने या न मानने का अधिकार हर व्यक्ति का नितांत निजी अधिकार है। इतिहास गवाह है कि भाषा के प्रश्न पर जब भी जहाँ भी चर्चाएं या तर्क-वितर्क हुए हैं, हमेशा ही अनिर्णीत रहे हैं। इस परिवर्तनशील युग में कुछ भी शाश्वत नहीं है।

Misconception There is a big misconception about wiki. Most of the linguists are using wiki content as the approved content and following the same in their translated content. But the fact is the content on the wiki is written by someone amongst us. I would highly recommend not to quote wiki links as reference. I am still in search of an approved hindi lexicon.

You will learn in time This is the largest collection of terms on the internet organized neatly into various categories like scientific, administrative, maths, cooking, etc. I regularly use this resource and much of it is same as that in published glossaries of good standing like that of the Ministry of Human Resources, Govt. of India. It is even possible that wikipedia has sought permission to upload the government glossaries, though I have no evidence of this. There was talk sometime ago of making electronic versions of the government glossaries, but don't know what happened to it. We now have only wikidictionary.

इस पर विद्वानों में मतभेद हैं, जैसे बाइसिकल। साइकल के पक्ष में अधिक लोग हैं इसलिए इसे स्वीकार्यता अधिक मिली है। साइकिल कुछ अटपटा लगता है।

आई के लिए आय और वाई के लिए वाय महाराष्ट्र की देन है। जैसे वहाँ साइकल को भी सायकल बोला या लिखा जाता है।

उच्चारण सुनने पर वाय जैसा लगता है लेकिन प्रचलन में वाई ही है। उदाहरण के लिए निम्नलिखित लिंक में अनुक्रम देखें तो वहां भी वाई ही लिखा है

एलवाई

एलवाई, एलवाइ, एलवाय - इन तीनों में से एलवाई ही अधिक प्रचलित है। अंग्रेजी अक्षरों को कई तरह से हिंदी में लिखा जाता है, पर अब इनके संबंध में आम राय बनती जा रही है, जो इस प्रकार है - ए बी सी डी ई एफ/एफ़ जी एच आई जे के एल एम एन ओ पी क्यू आर एस टी यू वी डब्ल्यू एक्स वाई ज़ेड

एलवाई

यह लिम्फ़ोसाइट का संक्षिप्तिकरण है। हिंदी में इसे लसीकाकोशिका या लसकोशिका कहते हैं। रक्त की जाँच में लसीका कोशिकाओं की संख्या को ही एलवाई-57546 जैसे रूप में लिखा जाता है।
