My decision is based on my understanding of what the course entails, which is an understanding of the responsibilities of military duty or service, including punishment, administration of justice, and the ethics of service. I agree it's inelegant, but I believe it's transparent.

"responsibility of service" does NOT sound right "tjenestekendskab" does not contain anything that hints at "responsibility"(ansvar).
Your choice does not sound like anything an English speaker would say.

I ended up going with "responsibility of service" for tjenestekendskab, and a Danish sergeant suggested that skydelederuddannelse corresponded with "Shooting Range Safety Officer and Commander Training"-- a far more elegant solution than what I originally proposed!
