Termín celostní je u nás málo známý. Pochází od berlínského psychoanalytika Friedricha Perlse, který měl během 2. světové války praxi v USA a získal s tímto způsobem léčení velké zkušenosti. Vychází z názoru, že představy, pocity a činy souvisejí s celou osobností (z německého die Gestap - celistvá bytost).
