Estoy de acuerdo con la respuesta de Carmen, pero quiero proponer esta variante (dada por Alcaraz-Hughes) y agregar un par de comentarios:

1 ¨C La traducci¨®n que dan Alcaraz Var¨®-Hughes y que cita Mike aparece tambi¨¦n 302 veces en Google. Sin embargo, esta traducci¨®n no tiene mucho sentido en Venezuela, y sospecho que tampoco en otros pa¨ªses hispanohablantes.

2 ¨C Pese a la traducci¨®n que dan, Alcaraz Var¨®-Hughes explican que: Magistrate's court: In England, this is the equivalent of *¡°juzgado de primera instancia e instrucci¨®n.¡±* It is also called *"Courts of Summary Jurisdiction."* This court tackles summary offence, indictable offence as well as civil jurisdiction such as adoption proceedings.

3 ¨C Me parece que ¡°magistrado¡± es una traducci¨®n poco feliz de ¡°magistrate¡±; en Venezuela el equivalente es "juez de parroquia":
