Juan Jacob Feb 28:
@ Robert and others... Jinetear el dinero (Expresión típica de México) significa no pagar en tiempo y forma un adeudo. "Pedro no me está pagando lo que me debe. Está jineteando mi dinero."
Robert Carter Feb 27:
Which country or Spanish variant is the from?

misappropriation

According to my dictionary reference, this is a Mexican term. I feel the previous three answers are overtranslations, specific forms of misappropriation.

Thank you, Patinba!
neutral philgoddard : I don't see how you arrive at this, and you haven't given any Spanish references. Doesn't it mean either mismanagement or embezzlement?

No, because in both cases, the money is not returned, ergo, it is misappropriated. In kiting, the profits are embezzled, but the seed funds are returned.
neutral AllegroTrans : I cannot see how we have sufficient context for you to arrive at this. We need more text from the Asker

Who is "we?" If you have questions for the asker, ask them. The context was enough for me. Your own limitations are your concern. 😁

lapping

What is lapping in banking?
A lapping scheme is a form of accounting fraud whereby stolen or misappropriated cash is obscured by an employee who altes the accounts receivable. A forensic accounting audit of cash receipts can be undertaken to reveal a lapping scheme, which may show increased age of accounts receivables.

A lapping scheme is a fraudulent accounting practice that hides stolen cash by overlapping successive receivables.”

Spanish term (edited): jineteo del efectivo

cash skimming

Has a Cuban jinetero/a feel about it.

Kiting: I doubt there is ANY 'kiting' of checks / cheques involved and 'lapping' is reminiscent of the Barristers' forensic accounting course enigma of 'teeming and lading' but does not seem to fit this scenario:

'Teeming and lading is a bookkeeping fraud also known as short banking, delayed accounting, and *lapping*. It involves the *allocation of one customer's payment to another customer's account* to make the books balance, often to hide a shortfall or theft.'

Omitir arqueos de las cajas regionales puede ocasionar jineteo ... del efectivo// cash vs. credit card skimming: misappropriation before the assets are recorded in the books/records of an entity.
Example sentence:

A lapping scheme is a fraudulent practice that hides or obscures missing or stolen cash using the accounts receivable.

Cash skimming, or simply skimming, is the removal of cash before it is deposited and logged. Skimming is a difficult scheme to detect because the cash from sales or other receivables is stolen before its receipt is recorded in the financial system.
