I have encountered an uncommon term as I translated a car user manual. The main heading is "Introduction des Meurtrières et des Grilles" while the subheading reads "Meurtrière de Ventilateur du Block d'Alimentation". Despite all my search, I can't figure out what "Meurtrière" really is, nor do I know its English translation. Please help!

What is the difference between air grille and air register?
In simple terms, an air register is the same as a grille, but with adjustable dampers in it. Unlike grilles, which can be for both intake and release of air in a room, a register only serves the latter. An air register usually is used with air supply outlets feeding air into indoor spaces.

The "Air register slot" fits so well in my context while "meutrière" is polysemic since it sometimes refers to a "slot" inside the car and other times to "a loophole". The vehicle is adapted for military service. |

Hopefully Asker has some drawings / pictures, or some other clues elsewhere in the ST.
BTW, le texte dit certainement "bloc d'alimentation" au lieu de "block" ? Y a-t-il éventuellement d'autres indices que le texte original est déjà mal rédigé, voire une (mauvaise) traduction lui-même ?

On some cars they look like gills on a fish, and they wouldn't be at the front ("la grille" would be there).

Also, a 'meurtrière' in a defensive wall is a slit where they used to fire arrows or bolts, so maybe the 'meurtrière' of the fan is the inlet 'mouth' part.
