German term

Leitende Ärztin vs. Oberärztin (CH)

German to English Medical Medical: Health Care
Hallo,

es geht um ein Kantonsspital. Hier arbeiten in der Onkologie eine Leitende Ärztin und eine Oberärztin.

Übersetzt wurde beides mit Senior Physician. Muss ich die Übersetzung ändern und wenn ja, wie?

Gruß
Proposed translations (English)

Discussion

Sebastian Witte (asker) May 26, 2023:
@ Christopher I don't think "Leitende Ärztin" means "Physician in Charge". I have done some research myself.
Dr. Christopher Kronen May 25, 2023:
Why not simply Physician in Charge vs. Senior Physician? You could translate the first term as Chief of Staff but then why does the source text not use Chefärztin which would be more appropriate for this prestigious title.
TDVTrans May 25, 2023:
I have always translated 'Leitende(r) Arzt(in) with 'managing physician'. It is very commonly used, especially in the US. Don't know what your target English is. Hope this helps.
Marga Shaw May 25, 2023:
Vielleicht so: 'Leading Consultant Oncologist (f)' für Leitende Ärztin und 'Consultant Oncologist (f)' für Oberärztin

Der Titel-Wirrwarr ist bereits im deutschsprachigen Raum groß und ist anderswo auch nicht viel besser.
José Patrício May 25, 2023:
senior physician [female] Oberärztin {f} <OÄ> - cc dict

Vielleicht Leitende Ärztin = Senior Physician und Oberärztin = Consultant?
