Discussion

Blissness (asker) Mar 16, 2023:
I have asked the customer for confirmation that it is indeed bedpan and wafers...and it is. Crazy to put them as a single entry in a list! I can now assign a score, thanks eveyrone!
dandamesh Mar 15, 2023:
padèlla s. f. [lat. patĕlla, dim. di patĕra «piatto, tazza»].

Blissness (asker) Mar 15, 2023:
does that mean a padella is not a bedpan then? but a tray for medication? I shall have to ask the client and send more detasils here
JudyC Mar 15, 2023:
Yes, you put the powdered medication in the middle , then moisten the edges of the wafer and fold them over to close the wafer.

Two wafers make a cachet tablet

wafer= an envelope of rice paper enclosing a medicament

Blissness (asker) Mar 15, 2023:
I see in fact they are called drug wafers on the web
Blissness (asker) Mar 15, 2023:
those both make sense, but why put 'padelle e ostie' together in the list? so odd
Blissness (asker) Mar 15, 2023:
philgoddard that heads me in the right direction, now I need to find that in English, like a disc?

philgoddard Mar 15, 2023:
Picture I can see why they're called communion wafers, but what are they? Some kind of swab?

Blissness (asker) Mar 15, 2023:
obviously padella is bedpan, so ostia is something related to the use of a bedpan

neutral Fiona Grace Peterson : I agree with your translation but your references are wrong. These are just wafers that the patient's drug is added to for easier administration

wafer

These are "hosts" or "Communion-type wafers", sold in pharmacies to help patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets take their medication.
It may be an Italian practice, given the widespread Catholic faith.
It is not the same as a "drug wafer".

They seem to be gluten-free, usually.

It IS strange that the client has lumped them together with bedpans, but the two have nothing to do with each other.
