oxygen saturation

A pulse oximeter measures your oxygen saturation by being placed on the end of your finger. The measurement that is being given (98%) is oxygen saturation as recorded by a pulse oximeter (misurata al dito medio della mano destra).

"Pulse oximetry measures how much oxygen the haemoglobin in your blood is carrying. This is called the oxygen saturation and is a percentage (scored out of 100). It's a simple, painless test which uses a sensor placed on your fingertip or earlobe." https://www.blf.org.uk/support-for-you/breathing-tests/tests...

"A pulse oximeter is a device that is usually placed on a fingertip. It uses light beams to estimate the oxygen saturation of the blood and the pulse rate. Oxygen saturation gives information about the amount of oxygen carried in the blood." https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/safety-communications/pu...

distal O₂ saturation

> as per the previous, weblinked ProZ answer that suggests a distal answer.
Example sentence:

Objectives: We aim to evaluate the effect of circumferential negative pressure therapy (CNPT) on distal O2 saturation in healthy volunteers.

distal: Anatomy situated away from the centre of the body or from the point of attachment. "the distal end of the tibia"

Peer comment(s):

agree JudyC : also possible, but "distal" is unnecessary as implied by "finger"

Grazie and thanks again, Judy. The answer in the ProZ weblink def. fastened on the distal aspect.
neutral Anne Schulz : The typical distinction for oxygen saturation is between central (larger arteries) and peripheral (capillaries).

Danke, grazie and thanks, Anne. I had been 'influenced' by the previous 'distal' focus in the ProZ weblink.

Peripheral capillary oxygen saturation (SpO2)

Peripheral capillary oxygen saturation (SpO2) is commonly measured by pulse oximetry, which provides an indirect measurement of arterial oxygenation (SaO2) based on the differential absorption of light by oxygenated and deoxygenated blood during pulsatile blood flow
