draaischijf

turning wheel / rotating volvelle (dial)
Dutch term
Draaischijf
"Een draaischijf aan het einde van het boek leidt de lezer op speelse wijze terug naar één van de honderd afbeeldingen met bijhorende tekst"
The French translation is "cadran" which could be a dial but I can't visualise a "dial" in a book

10. So what is the history of pop-ups? Have they been around for a long time?
Before I answer that, I should make a distinction between two different types of paper engineering, pop-ups and movables. Movables are devices in books like pull tabs and rotating paper wheels, things that the viewer has to manipulate in order for them to work. They’re quite old. The earliest I’ve seen is a turning wheel illustration, called a volvelle, that dates to the 1300’s in a book made not of paper but of vellum or skin. It’s in the collection of the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and it illustrates the changing phases of the moon when the wheel is turned.

Even the endpapers have something to offer; the front has several shapes that can be magically turned into a different shape by folding in the flaps, and the back offers a turning wheel that reveals different shapes to identify.

Volvelle or wheel: An illustrated paper disc or circle is attached to a page using string, paper, or grommets and revolves around a central pivot. As the reader turns the wheel, the discs align images and information. The disc can be perforated to reveal designs underneath. The word volvelle is derived from the Latin verb, volvere, to turn.

: Yes, probably, or disc. I think "turning" is probably redundant.

rotating disc
- I would include 'rotating' in this context, as it fits with the idea of 'fun'.
The interrelationship of the symbols was demonstrated by printing them on a disc, which could be rotated to align with other symbols printed on the page.

"Parents will love this gentle, hands-on introduction to one of the most beloved stories of the Bible. Each die-cut page features an unfinished illustration. A turn of the built-in **dial** reveals a selection of images. Children can choose the missing image that completes each illustration as they learn the story of Noah and the ark."

: 'dial' seems to be an option as well. You can find similar images in combination with 'turning wheel'. E.g. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/kubasta-noahs-ark-pop... ;-)

Discussion
So far, I have consistently received notifications of new questions.
Two points:
- this never happened previously
- my Kudoz settings are not changed and correctly checked.
I wrote Support about it.
They say the cause is not on their side and they showed to me why (but I don't know whether what they showed proofs anything) and told me to whitelist '[email protected]'
Unfortunately, it did not improve things.
It's annoying.
This problem never occurred before.
Nothing changed on my side, as far as I know.
My provider (perhaps I got the wrong help desk clerk) could not help me either.
