Proposed translations
law firm management
or running a law firm or operating a law firm
Phil's Langenscheidt reference doesn't take account of the -wesen suffix.
The full context is "grundlegende Fragen ... des Kanzleiwesens" = fundamental issues of law firm management...

Some confusion arose due to your changes as a moderator, I'm afraid. And I've added more context now. |

A chancery or chancellery (Latin: cancellaria) is a medieval writing office, responsible for the production of official documents.[1] The title of chancellor, for the head of the office, came to be held by important ministers in a number of states, and remains the title of the heads of government in modern Germany and Austria. Chancery hand is a term for various types of handwriting associated with chanceries.

As to "-wesen", here's what the Duden says: "bezeichnet in Bildungen mit Substantiven einen Bereich, eine Gesamtheit, die etwas in seiner Vielfalt umfasst
BEISPIEL
Bildungs-, Finanz-, Gesundheits-, Hochschulwesen".
No particular translation in English: education, finance, health, universities. Sometimes you might add "sector" or something similar.
