Thank you Chris! Yes, 'professional' denotes those agents who do it for a full-time living, as opposed to say, friends and relatives of players who dabble in it as amateurs.

professional soccer intermediary (coll. go-between)

contratar agentes e/ou intermediários : engage *agents* and/or intermediaries - the latter having a specific meanining internationally.

Football is ambiguous for American football in the USA (or Down Under with Australian Rules FootbaLl) that makes a distinction with soccer.

Otherwise, young UK soccer supporters these days - including uneducated fans - have rarely heard of the term of soccer, though some of us, as youngsters in the UK who went on to play soccer semi-professionally rather than watch, used to collect soccer annuals rather than football albums.
Example sentence:

The new Regulations define an 'intermediary' as “[a] natural or legal person who, for a fee or free of charge, represents players and/or clubs in negotiations with a view to concluding an employment contract or represents clubs in negotiations ...

Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : If there is any difference between an agent and an intermediary, you haven't explained it. And "go-between" is just plain wrong.

Re-read the example sentence and the weblink. Intermediary is the FIFA term and is not the same as agent that is covered by agentes in the asker's quote. Also, go-between is not wrong, but used in practice to refer to an intro in a social/party setting.

Football Agent

Peer comment(s):

neutral Andrew Bramhall : Not really; 'professional agents' distinguishes them from ' amateur agents';//The point that Richard Purdom makes is spurious. Not all agents are professional, some are amateurs; friends, family, hangers-on and such; hence the necessary distinction.

neutral AllegroTrans : Why omit "profissional"? You cannot just ignore the word

agree Richard Purdom : yes, all agents are professional, this sort of pointless adornment might stroke PT egos but is entirely unnecessary in English. KISS.

professional football agents and/or intermediaries

registered [soccer or football] intermediary

Apparently a "registered intermediary" is a concept at the FIFA level.

Example sentence:

"FIFA HAS ENACTED NEW REGULATIONS REGARDING INTERMEDIARIES (REPLACING PLAYERS' AGENTS)."

Intermediaries are any natural or legal persons who, for a fee or free of charge, represent players and/or clubs in negotiations toward concluding an employment contract or transfer agreement.
