Spanish term

industria mecánica

"machinist industry"? "industrial parts industry"?

Thanks

mechanical engineering

el mundo de la industria mecánica : the world of mechanical engineering, not of the....

My student contemporaries at Technological Uni. in the South of England had been on mechanical, structural - and my RAF scholarship cousins - on areospace / avionics, electrical and electronic *engineering* courses, whilst serving an industrial period or sandwich stint inbetween and then, if successful, went into 'industry'.
Example sentence:

IATE: es industria mecánica CdT en mechanical industry CdT

Peer comment(s):

agree Althea Draper : It's also given as a translation here https://tureng.com/en/spanish-english/industria mecánica and I think mechanical engineering sounds better in this context

Thanks, Anthea. As mentioned, many of my UK contemporaries had been into mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering.
neutral Taña Dalglish : While Althea's link has three choices, is every person who works in the field a mechanical engineer? I don't think so! "... whose "aerodynamic" aesthetics evoke the world of the engineering industry"/A machinist is not necessarily an engineer!

Yes. Your first sentence is a valid point. Some of the staff might well be 'machinists' (as well as payroll clerks and tea boys / girls etc.etc.) though - when not on strike in the UK - would arguably be part of a broader mechanical engineering scene.
