Italian term

consumo di etile

Italian to English Medical Medical (general)
Trying to understand what "consumo di etile" means here (discharge summary for cancer patient who later died). In the first instance below, I thought perhaps it was some way of saying "alcohol related dementia" or something of that sort as it is listed as one of the causes of the possible underlying dementia, maybe the patient drank too much alcohol.

"Delirio misto incidente persistente di verosimile origine polifattoriale:
infezione della vie urinarie, degenza prolungata, allettamento, terapia con benzodiazepine e morfina)
verosimile demenza soggiacente di origine polifattoriale (ateromasia, consumo di etile)"

Then later, under comorbidities it lists "Consumo metabolicamente inadeguato di etile" - so now the patient didn't consume enough "etile"?

Any help/suggestions would be great, thank you in advance!

Non-PRO (1): Lirka

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

perhaps you need to appropriately consume some food and a cup of tea/coffee!!
Note from asker:
But why would it then say "Consumo metabolicamente inadeguato di etile"?
Right you are Liz, I think I need to take a break!

agree philgoddard : I think this may be a euphemism to avoid offending the patient.

agree Luigi Argentino : I agree. What do you think about "alcohol abuse" (contributing cause for dementia)? In this way, iMO, you could avoid to translate "metabolicamente inadeguato".....I read just know the comment of Phil. Probably he is right (e. g. insurance refund claim)
