skär

Swedish to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation Long distance ice skating
Hello

This is a subheading

Långa, nästan ljudlösa ***skär***.

and "skâr" no doubt refers to the marks left on the ice caused by the touring skaters. But I think it's the entire route taken as well

But how can I say this in English?

Apparently, ice skaters speak of divots but I'm not sure it sounds right

@ Agneta and all Thanks everyone
Agneta Pallinder Apr 14, 2022:
@Dave again I would say "spår" for the marks left on the ice.
Agneta Pallinder Apr 14, 2022:
@Dave Skär are the movements you make with alternating skates as you glide effortlessly across a smooth ice surface, ideally out of doors, on a frozen lake. Wonderful memories bubbling up here!
Strides, or perhaps glides if that can be a noun describing a movement.

Hello Ice Scream and Agneta Thanks for the input but does "strides" match the idea of the "skär" which I'm taking at present to mean the marks left in the ice and therefore the itinerary or route taken?

Agneta Pallinder Apr 14, 2022:
@ Chris Yes it is.
Christopher Schröder Apr 14, 2022:
Surely it’s the strides the skater takes?
