On a webpage for an industrial supplier? One of the services it offers is alternatives to OEM spare parts, which it then qualifies as Descautizacion in brackets.
Here’s the explanation from the client but I can’t find how we might say this in English. Any ideas? Thanks
OEM es el acrónimo de “Original Equipment Manufacturing”. En referencia a esto me explica cómo surge el concepto “descautivación”; a veces, los fabricantes originales, nombran algunos repuestos -que son piezas comunes- como una pieza única y propia y las venden a un precio muy elevado, digamos que el fabricante oficial “cautiva” un repuesto que se podría sustituir perfectamente por una pieza común (correas, rodamientos, etc) y lo que hace Dexis es ofrecer al cliente una alternativa válida más económica que la del fabricante oficial. Por el momento creo que no hay disponible una traducción directa de la palabra por lo que tu sugerencia seguramente va a ser una combinación de palabras como propone nuestro colega Patinba.
La expresión "Generic Spare parts" es la usual en el contexto puntualizado. El fabricante original contrata a terceros para que le hagan la pieza pero lo etiquetan y venden como propio. Es una práctica por demás frecuente y el proceso se llaman fabricar a "faꞔon" (del francés).
