German term

raumgreifend

German to English Medical Medical (general) neurology
Physical examination:

"Sie bewegt sich in der Praxis frei, ohne sich an Wänden abstützen zu müssen. Ihr Gangbild ist sicher und raumgreifend."

I did check previous entries, but don't like "long". Any other adjective that would go well with gait?

She exhibits a steady and ____ gait.

Thanks!

Many thanks to all who contributed. We have collected an impressive number of answers, a very interesting discussion indeed!

I think the one that reads ... ... best is "good stride length" from Z-Translations Translator here in the discussion box.
(the name "Z-Translations Translator" reminds me of the "Boaty McBoatface" snafu.)

@ Dr CK . you are so right. One of my regular clients once said (true story): "Less than perfect is still good enough."
And he was a perfectionist himself.
Dr. Christopher Kronen Feb 12, 2022:
You did mention specifically wanting to use "gait" in your posted question. The better option may in fact be not to do so use and one of the other formulations already suggested.

Colloquially, I would describe her as walking as if she owns the place, fills up the room, a very confident and self-assured person.

However, I don't see any of this as being all that crucial to the overall translation itself. Pick an option and go with it. Too much time can be wasted needlessly contemplating how many angels fit on the head of a pin. ;)
Her gait is steady with good stride length.
Her gait is steady with lengthened strides.
Open strides
with open stride length.

Hi Lirka She exibits a steady and striding gait - to use your impulse.

expansive as in expansive gait

You could try this, especially if there is a bit of an equine quality about the patient. ;)

Long seems like a pretty all encompassing and simple solution here. See previous proz question under web references.

"Hemiplegia" is the medical term for' loss of balance' which prevents someone from taking full, expansive strides.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Cilian O'Tuama : Overinterpretation IMO. Hemiplegia is only one of many conditions which may prevent this.

German term (edited): sicher und raumgreifend

confident and well-spaced

Her gait is confident (gainly) and well-spaced, rather than an abnormally ataxic, wide- or broad -based and hemiplegic gait.

It might be a good idea at least to incorporate the idea of 'raum-' as spatio- or spatially.
Example sentence:

Even his gait was becoming firmer and more gainly

Synonyme für raumgreifend ; Sonstige 3 (Adjektiv). jäh ; Sonstige 4 (Adjektiv). lang ; Sonstige 5 (Adjektiv). steil · weiträumig.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Andrew Bramhall : " well-spaced" doesn't work here
