French term

encadré

French to English Bus/Financial Human Resources Presentation on the history of a union to new employees in Québec
The text is a transcription of a training session on union history, with references to specific strikes and lockouts over the past years and with emphasis on all that has been gained and must be preserved in the collective agreement.

One participant says, "C'est qu'on est ***encadré*** par rapport à l'employeur. Ça nous apporte une certaine, une aide à faire respecter un peu nos conditions, nos conditions de travail." That's all the context I have.

I realize that "encadrer" often means to "supervise, manage," etc. But here it seems to me that it refers to the fact that union members are "in their own box" (as it were), i.e, organizationally separated from the employer. But not sure and would welcome suggestions/translations.

TIA

Bourth Dec 5, 2021:
have a framework for dealings with the employer I was going to enter this but see Cecile Andrade beat me to it, in an Agree to an Answer.
IMO Cecile should post an Answer of her own.

Peer comment(s):

agree Cécile A.-C. : spported (in the sense of having a framework established) encadré is commonly used in that sense.

agree Julie Barber : "We are supported in our dealings with the/our employer". It means that the union provides support to employees in their dealings with the employer.

It could also mean organized, in the sense that managers oversee and supervise staff. It's about relationships among employers and employees. Conditions of work depend on the employers and managers who should gain respect from employees.

(FR: Ça me semble être de l'organisation au sens que les gérants surveillent les employés. Il s'agit des relations parmi les gestionnaires et les employés. Les conditions de travail dépendent des employeurs et des gérants qui devraient obtenir le respect du personnel.)
