Spanish term

notoriedad

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Textiles / Clothing / Fashion Restoration of old textiles
Referring to the process of working on an old damaged textile, the text says "Su metodología cumple con los requisitos de notoriedad y reversibilidad". When I then asked the client what they meant by notoriedad, they said:

Any bright ideas, please?
Many thanks!

Discussion

Lisa Rosengard Dec 6, 2021:
The references to noteworthiness, notice-ability and clear visibility suggest that the images displayed in a work of art define what the artist is aiming to show in the visual creativity as a completed action on first sight.

IMHO, "notoriedad" in this context is more than just visibility, but the extent to which something is noticeable/visible, in other words, how much it stands out. So, a repaired section of the artwork or material might be visible, but still not impinge on the overall aspect of the object.

unfavourable recognition

Notoriety is an unfavourable recognition, while something notorious is disreputable.
It suggests that a damaged textile was made with a discredited technique, requiring a reversal or a repair.
