: confusingly enough "to sanction / sanctions" is more often heard in the opposite meaning of "disapproval", but it can also mean "validation/approval".

Thanks but sanction meaning "approve" is quite common. Other meaning not exactly opposite but rather means "penalise" as in "add sanctions/penalties"
