Japanese term

はるばる

Non-PRO Japanese to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
Dear ProZ members,

I've found this sentence in a cartoon, and since it's a bit complex I'd like to have a confirmation that my translation is correct.

A student in a sport club is talking about an away match he took part in:
深夜バスに揺られてはるばる志望大学のコー チにいいとこ見せようって、気合い入れて行った
(I went there pumped taking the night bus in order to show my qualities to the coach of my top university pick who came from afar.)

Is はるばる referred to the coach? Is the overall translation correct?

Thank you so much!

It is はるばる...行った and it refers to the student. It indicates the long distance and the trouble he took, and also some emotion of expectation.
Pumped, I took the night bus to go all the way to the match to show off my skills to the coach of my top university pick.
