: no, "cachottier, cachottière" is a completely different type of "hiding" - no ways in a year of Sundays that it could be applied to "hiding insults" under the cover of "benign comments".

"Shady dealings" may be deals made under the table (avoiding taxes, avoiding immigration laws...) or possibly criminal (drug dealing, etc). A "shady person" might be involved in such dealings, and might drag you into them; for example, if you're trying to buy a used car, and you go see one that was advertised, but the seller seems "a little shady," then you wouldn't be surprised to find out that the car he was trying to sell wasn't his/was stolen, or that he had run the odometer back so it looked much less used than it really was.

Habituellement, une personne "shady" est qqn de louche/suspect/ douteux.
Mais avec votre explication, et la phrase cela n'est pas le sens "courant" (d'accord avec Renate), cela me fait penser plus à qqch en relation avec l'expression "throw shade" par exemple , on peut alors s'orienter vers qqch comme qqn de sournois/fourbe, si ce comportement est récurrent on peut s'orienter vers une mauvaise langue ou langue de pute, terme vulgaire mais qui pourrait peut-être convenir (dépendant du type de télé-réalité) ou si c'est toujours la même personne qui est visée peut-être qqch comme "toxique".
Cela reste mon interprétation bien évidemment.
