rhythmic picking

This is part of the subtitles for a guitar tutorial.

Narrator:
"Often, when you're playing a riff with a strong groove, it feels best to use ***rhythmic picking***. Down on downbeats, up on upbeats. This feels like strumming, but using single notes and power chords in a riffing context, rather than all the strings."

I am not sure what kind of "pennata" this is, but it seems to me this could be the same as "alternate picking".

but in the list of files I have to translate, I find both "alternate picking" and "rhythmic picking" referring to two different videos, so, to two different techniques.

Any expert on the matter?
