Bordés Jessjess, are you sure that "joints de bordés" are edge joints? According to Larousse, 'bordé" is "Ensemble des planches ou des tôles constituant le revêtement extérieur de la coque d'un navire". Also, in this book, it states, "Comparée à d'autres méthodes utilisées pour fixer les couples aux bordés de coque, la soudure discontinue est très solide". There are many other references in the book to this being the plates used to form the outer covering of the hull.
