French term (edited): galanterie

coquetry

neutral Mpoma : "fancy objects" don't imply anything about the relationship between the giver and recipient

token of affection

Surely this is the context? The giving of small objects in the context of amorous relations of some unspecified kind.

NB "token of affection" also obviously has a metaphorical usage, but historically it has always meant objects, and I think it continues to mean it.

small decorative household items

This is not easy to parse because it's a sentence fragment with limited context, but 'objets de galanterie' here is a generic term for decorative household items, probably given as gifts, such as 'étuis et tabatières en papier mâché laqué'.

Here's a very similar sentence describing the items made by a particular company (perhaps even the same one as in Judith's text):

You could also include the French term to add a little color.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Mpoma : hmm... a Toby Jug or 3 flying geese would be small decorative household items... how *galant* would they be?

Household items implies they have a useful purpose.
neutral SafeTex : Even decorative household items can be plants, stickers, candles etc.

gifts (to be) given by chivalrous men

Without checking, I feel the adjectives "gallant" and "chivalrous" (> "galanterie") apply to men only.

You might wonder about "tabatière" (snuffbox or tobacco pouch), but women used snuff and still do:

Fewer people smoke, but more ***women use snuff*** - SSBhttps://www.ssb.no (Note: *Norway*) › helse › artikler-og-publikasjoner
Jan 18, 2017 — There are fewer people smoking daily today compared to 10 years ago, but the use of snuff has increased in recent years – particularly among ...

Women using snuff: "In 1561 Jean Nicot, the French ambassador in Lisbon, Portugal, who described tobacco's medicinal properties as a panacea in his writings, is credited with introducing ground tobacco snuff to the Royal Court of Catherine de' Medici to treat her persistent headaches.[2][4] Catherine was so impressed with its curative relieving properties, she promptly declared the tobacco would henceforth be termed Herba Regina (Queen Herb). Her royal seal of approval would help ***popularise snuff among the French nobility***.[2][5]" (Wikipedia article on snuff)
Peer comment(s):

neutral Mpoma : Interesting thought. Is it true, though? https://www.museecognacqjay.paris.fr/sites/default/files/dos... : search the hilariously French expression "femme honorée de sa couche" for some mad stuff...

The facts are all there, so at the very least factually my answer hangs together.
