Jun 19, 2021 22:05: AllegroTrans changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Sep 27, 2021 22:07: Andrea Capuselli changed "Term Context" from "Concerns about the immediate safety of a child outside of normal business hours Australian English" to "Context removed by ProZ.com staff."

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Edith Kelly, philgoddard, AllegroTrans

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Reporting child abuse

To report concerns about the ***immediate*** safety of a child outside of normal business hours, you should contact the After Hours Child Protection Emergency Service on xxxx. The concern is the "urgent safety" of a child.
Causes: - Emotional abuse, child neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse
Rosemary Schmid Jun 19, 2021:
Choose the meaning of "now" + "urgent."
Example: During your child's presence in our daycare center, you can be assured that we follow the highest safety standards....Because of our concern for the immediate safety of your child after business hours, we require rear-seat facing car seats being used for a child from birth to 12 months, AND until the child under 3 yrs meets the recommendation of your auto manufacturer. We will not release the child to be transported in a private vehicle which does not meet these requirements.

@Tana Sorry for the typo but it seems that another English native has a totally different idea
Taña Dalglish Jun 19, 2021:
It is Taña not TaRa!
Concerns about the "immediate" safety of a child outside of normal business hours. What don't you understand about "immediate" though? It means, "Concerns about the "prompt", "now", "urgent" "pressing", "existing" safety of a child.
Masoud Kakouli Varnousfaderani (asker) Jun 19, 2021:
@Tara A rapid/quick/speedy/swift safety doesn't make sense to me at all!

personal and top priority

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulation (1910.134(b)) defines the term as "an atmosphere that poses an immediate threat to life, would cause irreversible adverse health effects, or would impair an individual's ability to escape from a dangerous atmosphere."

"immediate" has a couple of connotations here: can mean dangers nearby (i.e. fire, electric shock, falls, agression etc.)

Immediate danger means the imminent danger of physical violence or aggression towards self or others, which is likely to cause serious physical harm.

Note from asker:
You agree with this definition from Macmillan: immediate aims, wishes, or needs are of the greatest importance and are dealt with first

at this time
but I would alway interpret it as absolute if this fits your context. It has absolutely nothing to do with rapid/swift

sorry asker I do not understand your question. however, living in Europe I will sign off now but will revert t it once you give me an explanation
Note from asker:
I am thinking about this what do you think? ONLY BEFORE NOUN immediate aims, wishes, or needs are of the greatest importance and are dealt with first
I found this definition and I think "immediate" means this here. From Macmillan Dictionary: immediate aims, wishes, or needs are of the greatest importance and are dealt with first https://www.macmillandictionary.com/dictionary/british/immediate
What do you think?

neutral AllegroTrans : These can be synonyms but not really within the specific context here

pressing or paramount

Other options

pressing or paramount = what is needed to ensure their safety NOW

pressing = urgent = needs to be done first. right now before anything else

so, for example, if a child is in danger the immediate concern would be to remove them from danger, and get them to a safe place before doing anything else
