French term

confondue

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general) display systems/in a patent
Context:

Not sure whether confused is OK in this context.
Suggestions would be appreciated.
TIA Chris.

@ All Just had an input from person outside Proz which might be of interest to all.

What about "X is coincident with Y" ?

Examples from the Ouèbbhe :
"Two lines that lie on top of one another are called
coincident lines".
"these two lines are coincident, only you can't see them
both, because they are on top of each other"
"Two lines are coincident means lines are meeting at
infinite many points"
"Whether the system has a solution or not depends on whether
the two lines are coincident (that is, the same line). "

Align (@ all) Hello

I'm not even going to give this a "neutral" as it is a valid and worthy attempt and I have my own suggestion up but I do think that there is a difference between "merge", or "coincides with" and "align" in that if two things are aligned, they are parallel but could be some distance apart.
And my reading on this is that there is no distance separating them so I kind of lean towards my suggestion or Cyril's but I'm not trying to hard sell them so feel free to say "wrong" to me.
polyglot45 Mar 21, 2021:
confondu have you never seen expressions like "toutes catégories confondues" - across all categories/all categories taken together.
Nothing to do with confusion as such
Joan Berglund Mar 21, 2021:
coaxial? I came across this for "confondue" recently. I'm not sure it fits here. What do you think looking at Figure 3?
Bashiqa (asker) Mar 21, 2021:
@ Tony Thank you, confirms my suspicion that a +ve term is required which is not the case with confused.
Tony M Mar 21, 2021:
@ Asker I don't think it is wise to use 'is confused', which would often to imply 'is mistaken for', which I'm pretty sure is not the intended meaning here. You might say 'merges with', although in fact the more everyday 'appears the same as' might be the clearest solution of all for the reader.
Bashiqa (asker) Mar 21, 2021:
@ Cyril Suggest that as an answer.

merges (is merged with)

This was my first thought although "coincides with" (Cyril) is a good contender too.

I am also perfectly fine with "coincides with". That's the idea: the aircraft is horizontal, so its longitudinal and the horizontal are the same direction.

Cyril should suggest it as an answer!

concurrent, convergent or converging

Another approach:

Thus, as seen in Figure 3, the horizontal direction X-X' is concurrent to the longitudinal direction when the aircraft 10 is facing the landing area 18
or
Thus, as seen in Figure 3, the horizontal direction X-X' is converging to the longitudinal direction when the aircraft 10 is facing the landing area 18
