Norwegian term

Røykutvikler

Norwegian to English Tech/Engineering Cooking / Culinary
This is an electric heating element which produces smoke from a single smoking wood chunk.

I think the proper translation might be 'smoke generator' however these often use pellets/chips, and I am not sure whether the term smoke generator would be broad enough to encompass my product as well, or if it refers only to a specific design.

Any other suggestions/insights welcome!

According to this reference, wood chips/pellets are used for hot smoking and wood dust for cold smoking.

Pia Walker Mar 11, 2021:
I agree with eodd - perhaps include cold as in cold smoke ?
eodd Mar 10, 2021:
I think your own suggestion of smoke generator covers it.

If for a patent spec., best stick to a literal translation of 'smoke generator', though patent translators I used to work with inhouse in Central London advised: 'when in doubt, call it a unit, device or a widget e.g. a generating unit '.

loosely per Ansteinsson NO/EN tek OB: fumes emittter would change the meaning to motor vehicle exhaust....
