If the gap between two events is smaller than the minimum distance, the gap is filled and one long defect results.
This is especially useful for testing with encircling differential coils.
Due to the differential structure long defects generate just small signals at every change of depth.
So the threshold may be exceeded from time to time but not over the whole length of the defect.
See following examples:
As long as the distance between two events is equal or larger than Min.Defect.Distance, the events are treated as two independent defects (see case 1: gap between second and third event); otherwise, the events are treated as parts of a long defect.
Note the impact on the classification:
The defect separation algorithm influences the classification in different ways:

If counting of defects is selected, every filling of a gap reduces the number of defects which tends to a better classification.
If counting of defective length is selected, every filled gap increases the defective length and tends to a worse classification.
